Rob van Zuijlen
Rob van Zuijlen was a familiar face in the Diemen shopping center for more than 40 years with Dr. Shoe. Rob started in Diemen, which at that time had a population of only 14,000. The growth to 32,000 residents meant more customers and also led to new construction plans for the Diemerplein shopping center. Rob witnessed the development of the new building up close. He was pleased to see that Dr. Shoe was able to return to its familiar location after the renovation.
Rob thinks it’s a shame that a number of retail spaces are still vacant. The parking garage and the escalator, which you can’t use with a shopping cart, could have been done differently. He can often be found in the shopping center and has an eye for the smallest details.
Since retiring, he has not been bored for a moment. He finally has more time for his wife, children, and grandchildren. On Saturdays, he regularly attends matches of amateur clubs such as SV Diemen and AFC. He is active in the Dutch Shoemakers Association (NSV) and, of course, is also chairman of Onafhankelijk Diemen.
