Respect for animals,
they matter
Why this is important
Animals are part of our environment and deserve care, attention, and good policy from our municipality. Because animals themselves have no voice, their interests must always be taken into account in municipal decisions.
Humans have a moral responsibility to provide for the needs of the animals that depend on them.
Animals are not a means to an end; they are sentient beings with feelings and consciousness and have value in themselves.
What we want
Onafhankelijk Diemen considers animal welfare to be of paramount importance and is committed to ambitious animal welfare, with structural attention in policy and municipal plans. Animal welfare will be given a clear place in the new coalition agreement.
What we are going to do
- Ensure that the petting zoo can obtain the Animal-Friendly Petting Zoo Decree quality mark, with support from policy and budget.
- Collaborate with residents, volunteers, and organizations on ideas and initiatives for animal welfare, from brainstorming to implementation.
- Enable residents to make use of existing schemes, such as special assistance or interest-free loans, in the event of high veterinary costs.
- Explore and assess whether there is a need for an animal food bank in Diemen, by talking to residents, volunteers, and social organizations.
- Clearly include actions and ambitions for animal welfare in the budget with sufficient administrative capacity.
Our approach
We make animal welfare visible, ambitious, and achievable. With concrete actions, clear guidelines, and structural financial guarantees, we ensure that Diemen is a municipality where animals are treated as equals.
