Hospice Diemen
“There is always hope”
In Diemen, you can do almost anything: live, work, grow, and start a family. But dying with dignity in your own community? That’s not possible. Those who are terminally ill are sent to surrounding communities. Away from loved ones. Away from familiar surroundings.
That hurts, and it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Diemen is rapidly growing towards 40,000 inhabitants. The demand for care is increasing accordingly. General practitioners’ practices are filling up, informal carers are becoming overburdened and, due to national shortages in district care, good palliative care is becoming increasingly difficult. A hospice is not a luxury, but a pure necessity.
In surrounding municipalities, this has long been arranged. Not yet in Diemen.
Onafhankelijk Diemen believes that every resident deserves the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved ones close to home in the final stages of life. A hospice in Diemen would be a huge improvement. But realizing this takes time, sometimes as long as five years.
That is why we must take the first step now: a feasibility study. So that future initiators do not get bogged down in rules, barriers, and uncertainty.
We can do this together. With you, with our volunteers, with care partners, care workers, and a new city council that chooses compassion, commitment, and vision.
And above all, with our conviction: We always hold on to hope.
