Sustainability?
Yes, please, but it has to be fair!

Everyone wants a cleaner Diemen. Less gas, more greenery, and fresh air for our children. But many residents are wondering: who will pay for all this?

Because sustainability is all well and good, until you see the bill.

What we see in Diemen is that the plans are often already set in stone. District heating networks, wind turbines, solar fields. And then residents are allowed to “have their say.” It’s like you’re only allowed to choose once the train is already moving. Meanwhile, residents receive letters about modifications to their homes, higher energy costs, or maintenance that suddenly stops. Like the first residents of Plantage De Sniep, who were the first to switch from gas in 2010. Suddenly, they were left out in the cold by their supplier. Literally.

Independent Diemen says: this has to change. We are in favor of sustainability, but only in collaboration with residents. No one should be disadvantaged because they live in an old house or don’t have the money for a heat pump. Not over their heads.

And above all: affordable for everyone.

What we want:

  • Clear plans for each neighborhood, with residents having a say from the outset.
  • Housing costs down, not up. No green without fairness.
  • More support for those who cannot afford it. Insulation, energy advice, and home assistance for those who need it.
  • No vague promises, but real protection against sky-high bills.
  • Sharing sustainable profits locally too: through cooperatives or neighborhood funds.

The energy transition in Diemen should not become a competition between those who can afford it and those who cannot. We do this together or we don’t do it right.

Independent Diemen stands for a green future that works for everyone. Fair, clear, together.

Because only then is sustainability truly sustainable.
