Give young people in Diemen a place Outside school and sports

Not much to do after school!

Diemen is a great place to live. But if you’re young, it can be pretty boring outside of school hours. On a weekday evening, the streets are quiet and Diemerplein is empty. Teenagers hang around the shopping center or sit at home on the couch with their phones. They’re bored. Many young people feel forgotten. Parents notice this too. Their children have little to do outside of school and/or sports. During the holidays, the municipality sometimes organizes something fun, but the rest of the year there is hardly anything for young people to do. That’s a shame for them and, in fact, for everyone in Diemen.

Onafhankelijk Diemen wants to change this. We are coming up with solutions for all young people in Diemen. What do we have in mind?
A youth center and after-school activities.

• A real youth center: a permanent place especially for young people, like a second home. They are always welcome here. They can meet friends, make music, play games, or just chill out. Youth workers are there to provide guidance, but the young people decide for themselves what they want to do.
• More after-school activities: not just sports, but also workshops and clubs after school. Think music, dance, theater, cooking, or doing homework together. Something for everyone, even those who are not members of a sports club. This allows young people to discover new talents and stay active.
• Lively places in the neighborhood: making squares and parks more fun for young people. For example, with a basketball court, a skate park, or a chill-out area with benches. Everything safe, clean, and well-lit. Then young people no longer have to hang around aimlessly, but have a nice place to get together.

With these plans, we give young people the attention they deserve.
No one is left out. Every young person in Diemen gets the opportunity to develop and have fun, all year round.

Living together in Diemen means that young and old look out for each other. If our youth are given the space to grow and enjoy themselves, the whole of Diemen will benefit. Parents will see happy children.
Local residents will see pleasant streets. Independent Diemen believes in this.

Together, we will ensure that no young person ever has to be bored again.
